What Are the Symptoms of CHD in Women?

Image1

Although chest pain is the most common presenting symptom of a heart attack in both men and women, many women who have a heart attack may not experience chest pain. Often, women experience symptoms that are not considered “typical” for a heart attack, which may result in delays in receiving care and a heart attack that goes unrecognized. To make matters worse, women often delay seeing a doctor for treatment of heart disease symptoms.

Common symptoms of heart attack in women include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Back, neck, jaw, or shoulder pain
  • Nausea or indigestion
